Holding and Haunting
Fall 2024 - Spring 2025
My approach to photography emphasizes comprehension in quiet moments and the beauty in ambiguity. By blending imagery with textiles, my work transforms into pieces that are alive and tangible. I want audiences to see but also physically feel and experience my world, shaped by the interplay of absence and presence. My work reflects my journey of self discovery; who I was, who I am and who I am becoming.
"Holding and haunting" explores the contrast of my two selves in a fabric collage. Within the past year, I felt an overwhelming change in myself and I feel I have been split in half. One part of myself is hopeful, naive and elusive. The other is static and careful. Both are yearning to be close to each other again but cannot find that connection anymore. Drawing from personal experiences, "holding and haunting" centers around grief, memory and identity. I transform vulnerability into visual storytelling. I expanded my practice beyond traditional prints by integrating textiles to emphasize the gentle essence of the work. My photographs showcase blurred, ethereal movements to evoke the ephemeral nature of memory and the weight of absence. I want to discover the in between of what was and continues to linger.
